Recently, a San Diego radio station received a picture from an unidentified viewer that created a huge controversy. The license plate read "NOT SEE". At first, this license plate seems fine; maybe it's an inside joke or maybe he drives so fast that you can't see him or something. However, another zoomed out picture of the car showed that there was a swastika above the license plate, and the intention of the words "NOT SEE" are supposed to mean "Nazi". The anonymous viewer turned out to be the owner of the license plate, Shawn Calpito, who is a school bus driver. A local news station tried to crack down on this case, but when they arrived to his house, Calpito would not answer the door and the plates were removed from his car. Without the symbol above, the meaning of the plate is unclear, but when the DMV heard about the swastika above, they put two and two together and sent Calpito a notice cancelling the plates and requesting that they be surrendered. Although it still may be offensive to some people, Calpito has reportedly removed the swastika but kept the plates.
